Sairam we have heard about devotees doing Padyatra from various places
to shirdi, The devotees carry a Palki or just walk down to Shirdi.
The meaning of Padyatra means walking on foot with or without footwear
to Shirdi from different places of India. This practice is followed
based on the Padyatra to Pandarpur by devotees of Vitobha. Padyatra to
Shirdi is a unique experience by devotees. There are many instances
where devotees walked to Shirdi without any money and just sustained
themselves on Bhiksa they got on the way to Shirdi. Here is a beautiful
experience of Padyatra by a devotee of Sai Baba of Shirdi.
On June 4th 2007, Anil Sahebrao Shilke, felt extremely unwell while returning home from work. Suddenly he started sweating, his
throat became parched, and his abdomen was painful and bloated. The
symptoms increased in severity by the minute so he went to a shop and
called home. He dialed the number but he could not speak and fell on the
floor unconscious.
When he came to consciousness he realized that he was in the I.C.U. of Chinchvad Hospital. The doctor informed him that the blood tests
and scans revealed that both his kidney’s had ‘shut down’ so he would
be on dialyses starting that day. The dialyses would continue after he
was discharged every Tuesday and Friday for the rest of his life. The
diagnosis and prognosis sent a chill down his spine, and he felt
helpless. In desperation he prayed to Baba and said, “Baba don’t give me
this life of dependency on dialysis instead give me death”
On the 17th he
went home, and exactly a month later the ‘Palkhi procession’ would
start walking from Pune to Shirdi. Anil was distraught as he had
participated in the procession for the past 8 years, and he intended to
walk this year also. Again he earnestly prayed to Baba
saying, “Due to ill health if I can’t walk this year Baba please
restore my health so I can walk with the Palkhi next year. Baba if I can
run in front of your Palkhi like a horse next year I promise to offer a
silver horse to you with gratitude”. Then he applied a little udi to his forehead and fell asleep.
That night he was awoken by a loud voice that said, “Do you have no
faith in my udi?” He woke his wife and asked her if she had heard the
voice, she thought that he was delirious and she got worried. Then he
fell asleep and this time he woke up at 5 am, and he distinctly heard
the Kakad Arati. Again he woke his wife and the whole family got up none
of them heard the Arati except him.
This was the turning point
about 2 hours later he passed some urine. This was great as he had not
passed a drop of urine for the past 15 days. His condition also improved
when he visited the hospital a few days later his blood tests had
improved, so he did not require dialyses. Anil improvement was rapid and
sustained. He did walk to Shirdi along with his wife and friend, and he
offered a silver horse to Baba as promised.
