A renowned devotee of Shirdi Sai Baba, Sainathuni Sarath Babuji was born on 7 October 1954 in Andhra Pradesh, India.
He lived and showed the path of Shirdi Sai Baba to all who came to him.
His personal principle was to be dependent on nothing and nobody other
than Sai Baba.
His birth date, 7
October 1954, coincided with the 36th anniversary of Sai Baba's death,
and that very same day the statue of Sai Baba was installed in the
Samadhi Mandir, Shirdi. This also symbolized to many his destined link
to Sai Baba.
He attended Vidyanagar college and there it was
where his English teacher, Master Bharadwaja, introduced him to the
gospel of Sai Baba. From this point on he dedicated more and more of his
time to try solving the mystery of life.
Later on, the
biography of Sri Ramana Maharshi touched him deeply and revealed him the
possibilty of realization in this human life. He then set himself to
hard and focused sadhana and in the presence of the great saint of
Poondi, when he was only twenty years old, it is believed that he
experienced Sai Baba's act of grace.
He immerse himself in Sai
Baba's life and teaching, including the founding of "Saipatham"
magazine, and writing and editing most of the content himself. His
research was thorough and unstinting and he revealed to the world
hitherto unknown facts about Sai Baba, as well as original photos.
Practical, down-to-earth and with a one-pointed focus on Sai Baba, he
clarified several misconceptions, sweeping aside unhelpful superstitious
beliefs, and rejecting limiting ideas around orthodoxy, fanaticism and
caste.
At the wish of his Master, Sainathuni Sarath Babuji
married Anusuyamma, sister of his Master's wife. From a deeply pious
family, and a devotee herself, she proved to be a companion for
Sainathuni Sarath Babuji throughout his life. They had one daughter.
He never proclaimed himself as a guru - in fact, he emphatically said
he was not one - yet many claim they experienced in him divine qualities
of love, power and knowledge.
He led a life of a householder
and while many came to visit him. It was impossible to give anything to
him because of his strictly maintained principle of Aparigraha. As a
householder, he refused to accept any donations.
In the latter
years of his life, Sainathuni Sarath Babuji suffered from bad health. In
2010 he underwent a heart surgery, which caused his weakened heart to
finally stop beating. He died on Saturday, 13 November 2010, in Murnau,
south Germany.
In accordance with his wish, his body was laid
to rest in Shirdi, abode of his beloved Sadguru, Sai Baba. Throughout
that night a stream of devotees who had travelled from all corners of
India and abroad, took their final darshan of his adored form in the
Saipatham satsang hall, before his wife and daughter performed the last
rites. The aradhana (memorial service commemorating the passing of a
saint) was held 31 December 2010 - 2 Jan 2011 and his samadhi
(sannidhanam) is a place of prayer and meditation.
